Help with signatures for Track your item

Will I see a signature when I use Track your item?

We usually ask customers to sign for deliveries on a digital screen. However, due to the current coronavirus situation, in order to protect both our people and customers as much as possible, we will not be handing over our hand-held devices to customers to capture signatures. Postmen and women will instead log the name of the person accepting the item. This will apply to all deliveries that require a signature:

The name we capture will be the person who accepted the parcel. It might not match the name on the address label.

*We take a 'signature on delivery' for these services. However, we don’t provide a copy of the signature to you as part of the service and it’s not available to view online.

What if there’s no-one available to accept a delivery?

We’ll leave a Something for you card. This will explain that we tried to make a delivery.

The recipient can then collect the item from their local Customer Service Point or arrange a Redelivery.

If my item is going to a PO Box® will I get a signature?

If we’re holding a customer’s mail in a PO Box® for collection, we’ll put a ‘Something for you’ card in with the mail. We will then log the name of the person collecting the item .

If we’re delivering a customer’s PO Box® mail, we’ll log the name of the person when we deliver.

What if a name is showing, but I haven’t received my item?

If you’re the recipient:

  • Check if you recognise the name - someone you know may have accepted the item on your behalf.
  • If the item was delivered to your home, ask anyone else living there if they accepted the delivery.
  • If the item was delivered to a work address, check with the post room and colleagues.
  • If you bought the item online, check the shipping and billing address were correct.

If you’re the sender:

  • Ask the recipient to check the above information.
  • Check the shipping and billing address provided were correct.

If the item still can’t be located:

If you’re the recipient:

  • Please contact the sender. They will contact us to make enquiries on your behalf.

If you’re the sender:

  • If the item was posted in the UK, please contact us.
  • If the item was posted from another country to the UK, you need to contact that country’s postal authority. They can make enquiries on your behalf.

Why can’t I see the name of the person who accepted the item online?

Normally we'll capture the name using a handheld digital device. This means we can put their name online straight away.

Sometimes we’ll get a signature on a confirmation of delivery card. This takes longer to appear on our website. We aim to get the signature online within 72 hours of delivery, but you’ll usually see it much sooner.

If you’re still waiting to see a name after 5 days, please contact us using the link at the bottom of this page.

Please note:

  • Signatures for items posted to the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man aren’t available on our website. You can get these signatures by contacting Customer Services on 03457 00 1200.
  • Signatures may be collected for items posted using our International Tracked & Signed or International Signed services on delivery. However, we don’t provide a copy of the signature to you as part of the service and it’s not available to view online.
  • View our International Incident Bulletin for country specific information
