Sending items to Denmark
Postcode
Items going to Denmark require a Postcode. Â The Danish address format, see below, requires the postcode to be on the same line as the Town or City. It is also required in the Postcode field in Royal Mail Click & Drop to ensure the item is not rejected.
Denmark uses a simple 4-digit numeric system for its postal codes (known as postnumre).
Regional breakdown of Danish postal codes:
- 1000 to 1999: Copenhagen and Frederiksberg
- 2000 to 2999: Greater Copenhagen and surrounding suburbs
- 3000 to 3699: Northern Zealand
- 3700 to 3799: Bornholm
- 3900 to 3999: Greenland
- 4000 to 4999: The rest of Zealand and nearby islands
- 5000 to 5999: Funen and surrounding islands
- 6000 to 6999: Southwestern Jutland
- 7000 to 7999: Central and Northwestern Jutland
- 8000 to 8999: Eastern Jutland
- 9000 to 9999: Northern Jutland [1, 2]
Â
A standard Danish address block includes:
- Recipient's Name
- Street name, building number, floor, and apartment (e.g., Tietgensgade 137, 2.tv)
- Postal Code and Town/City (e.g., 8800 Viborg)
- Country name (e.g., DENMARK in all caps for international mail)
You are responsible for checking postal restrictions and prohibitions for your destination.
There are rules about what Royal Mail will carry and each country has their own restrictions which may differ, so it’s important to check both.

Â
To help facilitate customs clearance, it is recommended that you provide recipient contact details (email address and/or phone number) so that recipients are contactable if any information is missing or incorrect. Contact details should be provided within the electronic customs data or in the case of a CN23 on the physical declaration. To ensure this information is protected do not write these contact details separately on the outside item.
Postcode search
With postnord you can search for postcodes and addresses in Sweden, Norway, Finland or Denmark.
