At a crossroads with your business? How to find your way forward

Almost every founder I have met reaches a point where they pause and ask, what next? It's certainly something I am no stranger to… I mean, I think it's the cornerstone of being a founder!! Sometimes it comes after a period of growth, sometimes after a challenge and sometimes for no obvious reason at all. Being at a crossroads can feel unsettling, but it is often a sign that something new is ready to emerge.
Here are some things I know to be true…
Â
1. Allow yourself to pause without panic
Not every question needs an immediate answer. Taking time to reflect can feel uncomfortable, but it is often where clarity begins. Give yourself space to think, rather than rushing to fix something that may simply be ready to evolve.
Â
2. Remember your True North
Over time, businesses can drift away from their original purpose or direction. Ask yourself what still excites you and what feels heavy. Your values are a powerful guide when decisions feel unclear.
Â
3. Share the load
One of the biggest lessons I have learned is that talking things through can change everything. Other founders understand the ups and downs in a way few others can and the outcome might surprise you. Reaching out for support can open doors you did not even realise were there.
Â
4. Changing direction is a sign of strength
Letting go of an idea or choosing a new path does not mean you have failed. It means you are paying attention. Many successful businesses exist because their founders were brave enough to change course.
Â
5. Take one step at a time
You do not need a perfect plan. One small, thoughtful step can build momentum and confidence, and get you where you need to go. Trust that movement, however modest, will lead you forward.
A crossroads is not a dead end. It is a moment to pause, reflect and choose with intention. Trust yourself and your instincts. You have already built more than you realise, and the next chapter may be closer than you think.
