Withdrawal of the Rural Carriage of Goods and Rural Newspaper Delivery services

We need to ensure our services are reflective of cost and our changing operational network and processes. Usage of both services has declined in recent years, and it is no longer commercially viable to provide this service.

You don’t need to do anything. We will continue to bill you monthly for the service up until Saturday 29 June 2024. You will need to make alternative arrangements for the delivery of your newspapers or goods from 1 July 2024 as we will no longer collect or deliver any of your newspapers or goods.

Both services will cease by 30 June 2024 and so you do not need to do anything. However, if you want to cancel ahead of this date, please email service.closure@royalmail.com with your cancellation instructions and the date you want it to be effective from.

Rest assured, our posties will continue delivering mail six days a week in accordance with our Universal Service Obligation.

Our decision to cease both services is driven by declining usage, revenue and increasing costs which make it commercially unsustainable.

Our Universal Service Obligation requires that we deliver mail to each address in the UK six days a week. This obligation remains unchanged. Therefore, customers will continue to see our posties as and when mail is available for delivery to their individual addresses.

No. There will be no local arrangement made with any of our delivery offices.

Unfortunately, we cannot continue to provide these services anymore.
