Download the Royal Mail App to find a postbox near you or check Services Near You.

The maximum size for a standard Royal Mail postbox is 44cm (length) x 35cm (width) x 16cm (depth), with a maximum weight of 2kg, and the item must fit before it can be posted.

Any Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed items or Royal Mail International Tracked Returns without a barcode on the label, must be posted at a Post Office branch and cannot be dropped off at a postbox.

Postboxes are only available for pre-paid items. If you are sending using a Royal Mail Business Account, you can find details of how to prepare your items and where to drop them off here.

A ‘proof of posting’ is one of the pieces of evidence we may require if you want compensation from us, in the unlikely event your parcel is lost, damaged or delayed. For further information, please go to Help with proof of posting & delivery.

Your letters and parcels must have a barcoded label in order to get proof of posting at a postbox. Services which can be used are: Tracked 48 and Tracked 24 (including with Signature and Age verification service options), 1st Class and 2nd Class services, Signed For, International Tracked, International Signed, International Tracked and Signed, International Tracked and Signed Heavier, International Tracked Heavier, International Standard and Economy and Tracked Returns.

You won’t be able to get a proof of Posting for Special Delivery, nor any letters where stamps have been used.

*We’ll provide a validated proof of posting once it is scanned at our mail centre.

Please note: Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed items must be dropped off at a Post Office branch or Royal Mail Customer Service Point.

Any Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed items cannot be dropped off at a postbox. Visit our Services Near You page to find out where you can post these items.

Any parcels which do not fit through our letterboxes will not be posted.
