The greenest carrier in the
UK for letters and parcels*
But we’re not standing still. We aim to be Net-Zero by 2040 and have zero emissions in our final mile by 2035.
As businesses are under more obligation to meet sustainability goals (and also just want to help the planet), our green credentials are a great point to raise with customers (and their customers). They’re also a great door opener with prospects.
*Based on average gCO2e emissions per parcel delivered by UK parcel operators, as published by Citizens Advice 2024 Parcels League Table.

Our 85,000 posties give us the UK’s largest ‘feet on the street’ network and we’re proud to already have the lowest reported carbon emissions per parcel of any major UK delivery company. But we want to do a whole lot more including; continuing to reduce our emissions, further reduce our waste and improve the air quality in our communities. We are optimising our on-foot delivery methods, whilst electrifying our delivery vehicles and employing a series of further decarbonisation initiatives to help us reach our target of net zero by 2040.

For more information about some of the ways we’re working towards delivering a cleaner future download the documents below. You might wish to share them with your customers too: Royal Mail Group Environment, Social and Governance Report 2023-24. Also check out our delivering a cleaner future infographic.

Here are some great conversation starters:
- Our posties walk up to a billion steps a day, making over half of our delivery routes wholly or partially on foot
- We have the largest electric delivery fleet in the UK with 7,000 electric vehicles (making up over 10% of our total fleet)
- We purchase or generate 100% renewable
Electricity across our entire estate - We have the Lowest carbon footprint per parcel of any major UK delivery company at just 200gCO2e
And we want to do more…
-
Target to be net zero by 2040 (10 years earlier than DHL)
-
We have also started using millions of litres of low-emission biofuels in some of our larger trucks instead of diesel
-
We have set the target of achieving a 100% zero emission final mile by 2035
