Set up your PO Box® in three easy steps:
Step one – Please complete our PO Box® application forms- Download our PO BOX® application form.
- Complete a Direct Debit form, or you can supply fully payment - payment details are on the application form.
- Provide proof address. Please note that your proof of address must be original and less than three months old.
Our PO Box® application forms are available to download in the 'Product Documentation' section below.
Step 2 – Send the completed forms to us.

Getting started
Guiding you through your PO Box® application
1. We usually need ten days to get your PO Box® ready so please bear this in mind when applying, especially if you want to advertise your new address soon.
2. If you’re applying by post make sure you send us a valid proof of address. It must be an original and less than three months old. We will accept the following:
- Royal Mail Account number for an existing service
- bank or building society statement
- phone bill for a landline only
- utility bill (gas, electricity or water)
- council tax bill.
3. Choose whether you would like a PO Box® for six months or one year. You may find it easier to opt for the one year option.
4. We’ll write to you when we’ve processed your application to let you know your new PO Box address and when it will start.

What should I do if I lose my PO Box® authority card?
If you have misplaced your PO Box® card, please email us.
We’ll ask you some security questions and then issue you with a replacement. We will also make your local Delivery Office aware of the situation.

What if mail has to be signed for?
When you come into collect your mail, you will find a ‘something for you ‘ or ‘fee to pay’ card with your normal mail. If anything has to be signed or paid for you can do this before you leave the delivery office.

When does my PO Box® expire or need renewing?
We will write to you before your contract expires giving you the option to renew your service.
If you need to know your expiry date, email us quoting your account number and we can confirm this for you.
Please be aware if your rental period expires or the service is withdrawn, we may return incoming mail to the sender, or otherwise dispose of it. If you do not renew, we may rent your PO Box® to someone else.

Can all my mail be sent to my PO Box®?
All mail delivered by Royal Mail can be sent to your PO Box. We will not take delivery of mail sent to you through other carriers or couriers e.g. ParcelForce. We may provide your delivery address details to couriers should they request this information.

How often do I need to collect my PO Box® mail?
You'll need to collect your mail regularly and at least once a week. If you don't collect it for a month we may contact you, or deliver your mail to the address you gave when you applied for the service. If you don't collect it for three consecutive months without getting in touch with us, we may cancel your box.
Items sent Recorded Signed For™, Royal Mail Tracked® and Special Delivery ™ need to be collected within 18 days. Otherwise we'll return them to the sender.

What if I have special security needs?
If you need your address to be completely private (for example, you run a women’s refuge centre or you’re a member of the security forces), you’ll need to write to us with a letter of endorsement from the police or a similar body.

How do I cancel my PO Box® and what happens to my mail?
To cancel your PO Box® before the end of the rental period, you must give at least one month's written notice. You can email us. Or, send a letter to:

S73 0ZJUnfortunately we can't refund your fees. Once you have cancelled your PO Box®, any further mail addressed to it will be returned to sender, or can be redirected at your request. Find out more about our Redirection service.
