Croatia joining the European Union
Croatia joined the EU on 1 July 2013, and as a result, mail to this country (parcels and letters) will be subject to VAT. Customers using our Zone Sort pricing option must sort to and select EU for mail to Croatia.
A packet is either…
- Over the size of 381mm x 305mm or
- Over 20mm thick or
- Over 500g.
If your packet is smaller than this please see our International Flats option. If the item is bigger, please contact Parcelforce Worldwide
There is a maximum weight limit of 2kg for packets however printed matter (books brochures, catalogues etc) has a 5kg limit.

With this option, you account for your daily despatches by counting and weighing that day’s mail and completing the necessary documentation. VAT will charged on all of it. For full service details refer to the User Guide.
Unsorted High Volume
This option offers country-specific pricing for those sending mail in bulk. You will either be sending more than 1,000 items per mailing overseas, or 1,000 items in total when combined with a UK pre-sort service, where the minimum quantity is five international packets per service speed. VAT will only be levied on the EU bound items you send.
This means that you divide your mail into two selections – those for the European Union and those for the Rest of World. Find out which countries are in the EU in our User Guide.
There are two options available for packets: Priority or Economy. All you have to do is segregate your packets by the speed of service that you want - and we’ll do the rest.
Western Europe Rest of Europe Rest of World Priority 3 - 5 working days 3 - 5 working days 5 - 7 working days Economy 5 - 10 working days 10 - 15 working days Up to 12 weeks
All figures are in working days (excl Sat / Sun), except where weeks are stated, and exclude the day of posting.
Please ensure you address your mail correctly. One of the most important things is that the country name appears on its own, written in English, on the last line of the address. Best practice examples can be found in our User Guide.
Using a return address
We strongly recommend that you include a return address on your international items. This saves you money and reduces wastage on future postings because any undeliverable items will be returned to you free of charge. You must use a UK return address on all items - ideally at a right angle to the delivery address. Make sure there is an obvious company identifier on it, such as your company name or logo. Inclusion of a UK return address is mandatory if you are sending more than 1,500 items to one country over a two-week period.
If you are mailing to destinations outside the European Union, you will need a customs label if you are sending:
- an item of commercial value
- goods or gifts
- printed paper (it’s advisable to add a customs declaration even if low value) especially if there are free gifts included with it.
You’ll find further information in our customs information page.
