We’re delighted to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Machin definitive by bringing you this special commemorative stamp issue.

In 1965, sculptor Arnold Machin was given the enviable task of designing the definitive stamp. Inspired by the Penny Black, his design was initially based on his bas-relief sculpture for the new decimal coins. Once perfected, his design was issued on 5 June 1967 and a stamp icon was born.
