What is the transition period?

The UK left the EU on 31st January 2020. The UK is now in the transition period. This is due to last until 31st December 2020.

The transition period (which runs to 31st December 2020) is designed to give everyone in the UK and the EU time to prepare for changes caused by the UK leaving the EU. We do not expect any changes to how you send and receive items during this time. This means that you won't have to make any immediate changes to the way you think about VAT or customs in relation to the EU. You will need to start preparing for possible changes after the transition period.
