What has Royal Mail been doing to plan for leaving the EU?
The UK left the EU on 31st January 2020. The UK then entered the transition period. This is due to last until 31st December 2020.
We do not expect any changes during the transition period. We are working to manage the impact leaving the EU may have on our customers at the end of the transition period. See the Government’s website on the transition for their advice on what changes may take place.
These changes will affect you whether you are an occasional sender or receiver of items to and from the EU, someone who buys marketplace items from abroad or a business posting to the EU daily.
In our annual report we set out how we're getting ready to leave the EU. We are well placed to manage the impact of changes to customs processing. For example, we are:
- working closely with Government and other stakeholders to put in place systems that will ensure parcels continue to move across borders effectively
- continually improving our operation to increase efficiency and reduce the impact of potential changes to customs processes
- working with key suppliers to ensure our supply chain remains secure
