To mark two great dates in motor racing history, Royal Mail celebrates this marvellous union of man and machine with an appropriately top class issue. 

 

 

 


Grand Prix – June 2007

1st Class – Vanwall 2.5L driven by Stirling Moss
Stamp 1 shows the 1957 Vanwell 2.5L driven by Mr Motor Racing, Sir Sterling Moss, who won the British Drivers' Club Gold Star a total of ten times.

1st Class – 1962 BRM P57 driven by Graham Hill
The BRM P57 from 1962 features on stamp 2, driven by Graham Hill, the only driver in history to win the 'Triple Crown' – the Indianapolis 500, the 24 hour Le Mans and the Monaco Grand Prix.

54p – 1963 Lotus 25 Climax driven by Jim Clark
The BRM P57 from 1962 features on stamp 2, driven by Graham Hill, the only driver in history to win the 'Triple Crown' – the Indianapolis 500, the 24 hour Le Mans and the Monaco Grand Prix.

54p – 1973 Tyrrell 006/2 driven by Jackie Stewart
Jackie Stewart features on stamp 4, behind the wheel of the 1973 Tyrell 006/2. Stewart won the World Champion title three times – more than any other British driver.

78p – 1976 McLaren M23 driven by James Hunt
Stamp 5 focuses on the 1976 McLaren M23, driven by playboy racer James Hunt. Hunt earned the nickname 'Hunt the Shunt' while cutting his teeth in Formula 2 and 3.

78p – 1986 Williams FW11 driven by Nigel Mansell
The 1986 Williams FW11 is the star of stamp 6, with Nigel Mansell at the helm. Mansell went on to win nine Grand Prix in 1992, securing the World Championship title as well.

1st – 1957 Vanwall 2.5L driven by Stirling Moss

  The first stamp bears an image of the 1957 Vanwall 2.5L driven by Mr Motor Racing, Sir Sterling Moss, who won the British Drivers’ Club Gold Star a total of ten times, and 222 of the 366 races he competed in. 

1st – 1962 BRM P57 driven by Graham Hill

  The BRM P57 from 1962 features on the second First Class stamp, driven by Graham Hill. Hill is the only driver in history to have won the ‘Triple Crown’ – the Indianapolis 500, the 24 hour Le Mans and the Monaco Grand Prix.

54p – 1963 Lotus 25 Climax driven by Jim Clark

 

The first of the 54p stamps shows the 1963 Lotus 25 Climax, with Jim Clark in the cockpit. Clark died during a race at the young age of 32, with 25 Grand Prix wins and two World Championships under his belt.


54p – 1973 Tyrell 006/2 driven by Jackie Stewart

  Jackie Stewart features on the next stamp, behind the wheel of the 1973 Tyrell 006/2. Stewart won the World Champion title three times – more than any other British driver. He was also a great champion of innovations in racing safety.   

78p – 1976 McLaren M23 driven by James Hunt

  The first of the 78p stamps focuses on the 1976 McLaren M23, driven by playboy racer James Hunt. Hunt earned the nickname ‘Hunt the Shunt’ while cutting his teeth in Formula 2 and 3, and won the F1 Championship title in ’76.

78p – 1986 Williams FW11 driven by Nigel Mansell

  The 1986 Williams FW11 is the star of the final stamp, with Nigel Mansell at the helm. Mansell went on to win nine Grand Prix in 1992, securing the World Championship title as well.
