Top Tips for Sending Mail
We want to deliver your mail as quickly as possible. There are a few things you can do to help us, so below we’ve compiled our “Top Tips” for sending mail. - So that your item reaches its destination as quickly as possible, please address your mail fully and clearly. Remember to always include the postcode – they can be verified for free online at www.royalmail.com/postcodes4free
- Remember to include a return address on the post you send so that we can return it to you if it can’t be delivered.
- When using dark coloured or red envelopes please use a white label to display the address. This helps us to read the address quickly and accurately.
- Please avoid using very small or square envelopes to send cards and letters.
- If you need to send money through the post please use a postal order or personal cheque. Please don’t post coins.
- Check that you’re using the correct tariff when sending mail both in the UK and to overseas destinations, and remember that if you are sending an item to the Republic of Ireland, you will need to use international postage rates. Underpayment can cause delays to delivery. Check our current prices.
- When sending mail abroad always write the country name in full as the last line of the address and in capitals rather than using abbreviations. Please also check the maximum size limits for the country you are sending to before posting.
- If you send a packet outside of the EU, you must remember to complete and attach a customs declaration for each item.
- You should select packaging that best suits the contents of your packet. Packaging material should protect the items enclosed from damage and be fastened securely to avoid them coming undone in transit.
