International incident bulletin


Welcome to our international incident bulletin; a round up of any issues which may be affecting mail services to and from countries around the world.

We keep this information as up-to-date as possible, with information supplied to Royal Mail by the various foreign national postal authorities.
 
  1. Africa

    Libya
    Start Date: 30 Nov 2001

    All services are available except International Signed For by Air and Surface.


    Somalia
    Start Date: 30 Nov 2001
    End Date: Still current

    No service since October 1991.

    Tanzania
    Start Date: 14th March 2009
    End Date: Ongoing

    The port of Dar Es Salaam is continuing to experience difficulties with extreme congestion and slow operations.  The port has stopped acceptance of mail for all Dar Es Salaam and Zanzibar destinations for the immediate future. All inbound and outbound Economy mail is affected.

  4. Europe

    Georgia (Abkhazia and Ossetia regions only)
    Start date: 12th July 2005 
    End date: Ongoing

    Due to the local security and political situation, only International Signed For mail can be sent to the Abkhazia and South Ossetia regions of Georgia until further notice. Normal mail service is available.

    Various Countries
    Start Date:  5th January 2010 
    End Date:  Ongoing

    Denmark, Germany, Netherlands and Sweden were affected by snow and severe weather conditions during January. Mail was delayed due to these conditions. 

    Greece
    Start Date: 10th February
    End Date: 12th February

    The Association of the Greek Civil Servants, including air traffic controllers, has announced a 24 hour strike for Wednesday 10th February. Some scheduled flights will be cancelled on Wednesday, affecting the movement of international and domestic mail.

  5. Latin America & Caribbean

    Chile 
    Start Date:  5th January 2010 
    End Date:  8thJanuary 2010 
    A strike by the Chilean Customs Service commenced on 5th January and affected the processing of postal items, in particular EMS and Parcels. 

    Haiti
    Start date - 12th January
    End date - ongoing

    Following the severe earthquake in Haiti, Royal Mail is currently holding all export mails to Haiti at their  HWDC office, until confirmation has been received  that there is a facility in Port-au-Prince which can receive mail and parcels.

    Iraq

    The postal service to Iraq is restricted to personal correspondence by airmail letter only. There are no International Signed For, Surface or Contract (sorted/unsorted) services available to Iraq.
