Royal Mail recognises the value of qualifications, whether academic or vocational, in equipping an individual with the knowledge, skills and motivation that enables them to perform to a professional standard.
National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) are recognised qualifications that are based on performance in the workplace, or more simply, how you do your job; they are about what individuals can do, as well as what they know.
NVQs offer a practical development route that leads to a nationally recognised certificate. The awards encourage best practice in the workplace. There is no written test or examination with an NVQ. Success is based on your ability to do your job to the required national standard. So in order to pass, you’ll need to show how well you do your everyday job.
Assessments are made on the basis of how well you perform, and are carried out in work by a qualified assessor - usually someone senior, who is experienced in the same area of work, and who will be introduced to you during your first week on the scheme.
