Can I buy old postboxes?
Royal Mail does not sell old postboxes. We keep all redundant boxes for re-use, particularly historical boxes.Back to top

Why is my postbox sealed?
Boxes are sealed for two main reasons:
- changes to the location or street that make it no longer convenient or safe for the public to use the box
- where emptying the box is no longer lawful or safe due to new traffic regulations or road safety considerations
We also protect our postboxes (and the mail within) from acts of vandalism caused by fireworks. Some boxes will have plates attached to restrict the opening and to only allow the posting of thin letters during the firework season. These restrictions will only be used where the box, or other boxes in the immediate area, has been previously targeted in this way. -
